The technological innovations of the modern times have brought about sweeping changes across all the fields and thus the field of Higher Education is no exception. Introduction of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) made the global knowledge storehouse accessible to all. Due to evolution of more interactive and responsive applications, a new system of learning environment came into existence which is popularly known as “Networked Learning”.

The interaction with the online materials and with other people across the globe is one of the major roles of the ‘Networked Learning’. This interaction between people in networked learning environments can be synchronous, asynchronous or both. This type of learning aims to break the space and time barrier that exist in conventional learning environment. It also familiarizes the student and teachers with the modern tools and technologies in education.

By getting the initial structure from the teacher, students construct their own knowledge by exploring all the facets of the topic. Thus they become problem solver rather than just a questioner. More analytical discussions made in this type of learning. Multi-cultural awareness among the students is enhanced in this system of learning. This process envisages student as autonomous, independent mangers of their own time and process of learning. They work with the tools as efficiently as the professionals do. The good educational outcome depends upon the appropriate design of the Network Learning system.

Thus the design of learning task, a good learning environment and due attention to the social dynamics determines the effectiveness of the networked learning in Higher Education.
